Engineering High Protein Content Soybeans
Title: Engineering High Protein Content Soybeans Invention: An enabling technology to create enhanced value soybean seeds with higher proportional seed protein content. Background: Soybeans are the primary global source of plant-source protein. About 70% of the global protein input for animal feed is obtained from soybean. The soybean industry has a strategic goal of increasing seed protein content while preserving maximum oil content. Soybean seed protein content is regulated by genotype and can be bred as a trait, however, protein composition is far more plastic, termed proteome rebalancing, and can be significantly altered.
