*Abstract: This invention is for an effective method to control environmental lighting of greenhouses which improves plant growth. The method, "Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density" (PPFD), embodied in software, monitors and controls a prescribed daily amount of light to be delivered to the plants. PPFD relies on actual daily data such as light flux received and does not use historical weather data or daily forecasts. PPFD determines if supplemental lighting is necessary and coordinates electrical usage with off-peak electric hours to properly dose plants as with the correct amount of light.
