*Abstract

Pulses from an Yb-doped fiber amplifier are frequency-converted by four-wave mixing in normal dispersion photonic crystal fiber to produce the pump and Stokes pulses. It was demonstrated the seeding the four-wave mixing process overcomes the deleterious effects of group-velocity mismatch, and allows efficient conversion into narrow frequency bands. The source generates nearly-transform-limited picosecond pulses with 3nJ energy, tunable from 775 to 815 nm. High-quality coherent Raman images of animal tissues and cells can be acquired with this technology. The technology could also be used to make an oscillator with lower noise, by adding feedback. It can be combined with a fraction of the pump field to drive coherent Raman scattering microscopy and other coherent Raman imaging modalities, as well as any application requiring frequency-shifted pico second pulses.
