SMS (Short Message Service) is a communication component of the GSM network and uses standardized protocols to relay messages between mobile devices via typed text (text messaging). SMS is the most widely used data transmission application with over 4 billion messages being transmitted daily. Due to its popularity, the SMS service is now supported over CDMA, GPRS, and Wi-Fi (via third party applications).Remote device control is becoming increasingly popular, and allowing control via the SMS network would enable immediate adoption by the majority of the general population. SMS messages may be parsed using command sets, but doing so requires that the client be designed accordingly and prohibits remote control of non-specialized devices. Retrofitting of currently available devices would allow for a near limitless market potential. The proposed device parses the wrapping of SMS messages and extracts the contained data. Further, it has the ability to de-multiplex the data and transmit it over the corresponding channel to allow simultaneous control of multiple devices via a single modem (receiver).
