*Abstract
Abstract of Patent Application 20070134625, "Computer aided dental bar design" : The invention relates to a computer-aided process of dental bar design for the purpose of fabricating removable implant-based dental restorations. The aim of the invention is to improve and automate the present dental restoration design process, which is very labor intensive and requires a lot of artistic work on the part of a dentist. The invention includes the developments of several algorithms and their integration into a computer-aided system to process the gingival and related data scanned from a patient's mouth and output a CAD model for fabricating the actual dental bar. Software has been developed to implement the inventive process. Non-confidential Abstract of Invention: The invention is about the development of a computer automated method of dental bar design for the purpose of fabricating dental restorations. This improves on the present dental restoration design and fabrication process, which is very labor intensive and requires a lot of laborious work on the part of the dentist. The proposed patent discusses a method for automating the dental bar design, which uses various algorithms developed to process the scanned data from the stone model and outputs the required data for fabricating the dental restoration. The developed method applies and integrates algorithms including the Fuzzy C Mean Clustering, Singular Value Decomposition, 3D Circle Fitting, swept volume generation, ray casting, Dexel to STL data conversion algorithms. The generated design data can be used to create a Stereolithographic (STL) file of the computer-aided design model for fabricating the physical dental bar using a rapid prototyping process or a numerical control machining process.
