*Abstract
Abstract of US Patent 7,048,807 - Cerium-based spontaneous coating process for corrosion protection of aluminum alloys: A cerium-based coating for corrosion resistance is applied by exposing a cleaned aluminum-based component to a corrosion-inhibiting cerium solution containing cerium ions in the presence of an oxidizing agent. The coating deposits spontaneously without an external source of electrons.Non-confidential Abstract of Invention: A conversion coating for use in protecting aluminum from corrosion has been developed. The chemical film is coated onto the aluminum metal by submerging in a solution containing a cerium salt and other supporting chemical components. The system is environmentally acceptable and could serve as a replacement for the chromate coatings now used.
