University of MissouriOffice of Technology Management & Industry RelationsNon-Confidential Abstract of InventionUM Disclosure No. 15UMC051Static and Moving Object Detection using Flux tensor with Split Gaussian ModelsFlux Tensor with Split Gaussian models (FTSG) is a moving object detection system that exploits the benefits of fusing a motion computation method based on spatial-temporal tensor formulation, a novel foreground and background modeling scheme, and a multi-cue appearance comparison. This hybrid system can handle challenges such as shadows, illumination changes, dynamic background, stopped and removed objects. FTSG is superior to other moving object detection methods in handling certain classes of complex background dynamics such as water fountains, rippling waves, thermal turbulence, and weather conditions such as rain and snow. FTSG demonstrates superior performance in low frame rate videos, night time shots, and pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) camera videos.POTENTIAL AREAS OF APPLICATIONS:• Object Detection• Security CamerasMAIN ADVANTAGES OF INVENTION:• Superior Detection • Adverse Weather Use• Better ParsingSTATE OF DEVELOPMENT:• Patent pending LICENSING POTENTIAL:• University seeks licensee with the potential to commercializeINVENTOR(S):• Filiz Ersoy• Rui Wang• Kannappan PalaniappanCONTACT INFO: Office of Technology Management & Industry Relations Brett Maland, J.D.
