This invention involves a method which significantly improves the performance of high voltage liquid dielectric switches, which overcomes repetition rate limitations on high power switches with parameters exceeding hundreds of kilovolts and thousands of kiloamperes in discharge times on the order of a few microseconds. Energy ratings in the MJ range are possible with this invention.POTENTIAL AREAS OF APPLICATIONS: Liquid dielectric switches; High voltage and high current switches.MAIN ADVANTAGES OF INVENTION: Overcomes limitations of present liquid dielectric switches; Higher repetition rates possible; Compact size.STATE OF DEVELOPMENT: Demonstrated and tested in a laboratory setting.FURTHER R&D REQUIRED: Need to further optimize the design for commercialization.
