Polyethylene Terephthalate-Graphene Nanocomposites

Summary
The technology relates to preparing polyethylene terephthalate graphene nanocomposites by injection molding. Nanocomposites with graphene platelets of 2%, 5%, 10% and 15% weight fractions were molded and tested for mechanical characterization. Transmission electron microscopy imaging along with X-Ray diffraction show that the Graphene platelets remained intact and were dispersed into matrix.
Technology Benefits
Improved elastic modulus for polymer nanocomposite.
Technology Application
Preparation of polymer nanocomposite.

*Background
Use of nanoparticles for preparation of polymer nanocomposites is well known in the art. Several nanoparticles such as organoclays (MMT), metal nanoparticles (Al, and Ag), metal oxides (ZnO, silica), and carbon derivatives (CNT's, Fullerenes, Graphite oxide, Graphene) have been investigated for the preparation of polymer nanocomposites. Graphene Nano platelets as reinforcement with different polymers have been investigated.
*Stage of Development
First prototype is ready. Improving the processing of the composite, improving dispersion, establishing thermal efficiency, reducing porosity of samples and sourcing other graphene raw materials are the tasks that are yet to be done.Contact Information: Please contact OSU’s Technology Development Center at tdc@okstate.edu for more information.
