- *Abstract
-
This technology from the laboratory of Dr. Rigoberto Advincula at Case Western Reserve University provides for hydrogel coating that is attached to a proppant substrate in a core-shell structure to enable a wide-range of functionality to be incorporated into the coating. For instance, the swelling behavior and mechanical properties may be tailored by varying components such as crosslinker, silane co-monomer, and initiator. These proppants are targeted to the oil and gas industry, and hydraulic fracturing, in particular. Dr. Advincula has developed a good dataset to support the performance of his materials, and opportunities for additional customizing are available to meet other use criteria in the marketplace.
