*Abstract
BackgroundPoor water solubility is one of the major hurdles for the advancement of drug candidates into clinical applications. Existing lipid-based formulations are more applicable to either hydrophilic or hydrophobic drugs, they are typically not well suited for many drugs that are only moderately hydrophobic or hydrophilic. An inadequate mixing of less hydrophobic agents with the lipid-based formulations could lead to low drug loading capacity and formulation instability.TechnologyThe innovators developed a novel drug carrier system designed for moderately hydrophobic drugs. A drug interactive segment has been developed which permits drugs that are not highly hydrophobic to be incorporated under less stringent hydrophobic environment.ApplicationFor the treatment of cancers and infectious diseasesThe drug interactive segment is positioned at the interfacial region, which permits drugs that are not highly hydrophobic to be incorporated under less stringent hydrophobic environment.AdvantagesSignificantly improved drug loading capacity and formulation stability.Broadly applicable in formulating various types of therapeutic agents of diverse structure.Stage of DevelopmentIn vitro dataPCT Application FiledReferenceZhang, P., Lu, J., Huang, Y., Zhao, W., Zhang, Y., Zhang, X., Li, J., Venkataramanan, R., Gao, X., and Li, S.
