- Under the Limit is developed and managed by the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety ΓÇô Queensland (CARRS-Q) at QUT. The 11 week drink driving prevention and rehabilitation program has been successfully delivered in Queensland since 1998. The award-winning program aims to rehabilitate drink driving offenders and reduce alcohol related crashes and trauma. The program is packaged so that it can be delivered by a trained facilitator at local venues in the community.Alcohol is responsible for a considerable burden of death, disease and injury in Australia. Estimated to cost the community $36 billion in 2009-2010, when factors such as the cost of healthcare, crime and violence, loss of productivity and premature death are considered. Repetitive drink driving is believed to be an indicator for alcohol dependency. Under The Limit is an effective drink driving intervention that incorporates treatment for alcohol dependency, aiming to reduce the cost of alcohol on society. This has been delivered successfully across Queensland for over 14 years. An opportunity exists for industry players to work with bluebox and CARRS-Q to prepare the program for delivery interstate and internationally. Industry partners may also wish to utilise the research expertise that exists at QUT to optimise the program further for their specific requirements.
