-
As shown by previous work at the University of Pittsburgh, Lymph nodes are able to be utilized as in vivo bioreactors for the transplantation of several tissues. Case 1664 describes this work for liver, thymus and islet tissues. Case 2983 specifically addresses the transplantation of brain, lung, kidney, and other tissues. Preliminary data shows both expansion and organogenesis in the lymph nodes of mice.Application* Could be used as an alternate or supplemental organ for patients with a failing organ Advantage* Does not require transplantation surgery* Lymph nodes do not have the space limitation that plague other cell transplant sites such as the renal capsulePCT Patent Application filed
