TechnologyResearchers have developed a new type of molecular, electronic switch. Application* Ideal for integration into massively parallel computing architectures on the molecular scaleAdvantages1) Switching of conductivity through a junction can be achieved on a single molecule scale within a volume of approximately 1 nm^3.2) Unlike previously demonstrated molecular switches, the outward molecular shape remains unchanged.3) The switch has multiple (six) stable states that can be selected by application of a voltage pulse with an appropriate value.4) The switch is represents one of many possible combinations of internal cluster and carbon (other materials could also work) cage to tailor the function to a particular application.Stage of DevelopmentPrototype system developed and successfully testedProvisional Patent Application filed
