Constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) belongs to the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcriptional factors. CAR has been shown to regulate the expression of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters. In the current study, the inventors show that CAR plays an important role in regulating energy metabolism and body composition. The findings may establish CAR as a novel therapeutic target for the treatment and/or prevention of obesity and type 2 diabetes .Applications1. Improves body composition2. Prevents high fat diet-induced obesity3. Prevents type 2 diabetesAdvantages1. Increases lean muscle mass2. Decreases body fat3. Increases glucose tolerance on normal or high fat diet; no calorie restriction necessary.Provisional Patent Application filed
