- Summary
- There is a great need for the development of a robust large scale cell production to facilitate the development of novel hPSC based therapeutics. The exploitation of Human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) for regenerative medicine and stem cell based R&D applications will depend on the availability of a large scale production or “banking” platform for hPSCs and their differentiated progeny. The lack of hPSC large scale production platforms presents a serious challenge for successful translation of novel cell based therapies into clinical settings. There is a great need for the development of a robust large scale cell production to facilitate the development of novel hPSC based therapeutics. We are currently developing a bioreactor system for large scale production of hPSCs. Our investigators are aiming at providing a proof of concept for the feasibility of an automated dynamic bioreactor culture system.

- Currently, hPSCs are propagated as monolayer colonies within highly variable and labor-intensive culture systems, which do not allow large-scale production of standardized homogenous hPSCs.
