- Need:
There is a need for novel compounds with anti-biofilm activity to increase susceptibility of certain bacterial strains towards conventional antibiotics.
Innovation:
We have developed novel compounds with anti-biofilm activity. We are proposing to use our compounds as a potential anti-biofilm strategy.
Proof of concept:
We have several potent new compounds with strong anti-biofilm properties. The compounds were screened for their ability to block biofilm formation in multiple bacterial strains such as Acne Vulgaris.
We have also investigated whether the compounds could enhance the susceptibility of bacterial biofilms to treatment with conventional antimicrobial agents in various biofilm model systems. We have found that pre-treatment during biofilm formation or treatment of mature biofilms with our compounds increased the susceptibility of certain bacterial strains towards conventional antibiotics.
