Method for Screening Agent with Angiogenic-modulating Activities Using Teleost Embryo

IP Title

Method for Screening Agent with Angiogenic-modulating Activities Using Teleost Embryo

Summary

For years, mouse models have been used for testing new drugs, despite their high cost. More recently, the zebrafish has been identified by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the US as an important vertebrate model for studying the development of embryos and human diseases. When compared with mammalian models, experimental results show that zebrafish embryos exhibit similar responses to drugs for cardiovascular diseases, anti-angiogenesis and anti-cancer. This suggests that the zebrafish model can be used as a bridge between the in vitro model and the in vivo model in the drug discovery and screening processes. In addition, pollutants can induce similar pathological responses in zebrafish as well as in other mammalian models.

Description
Based on these discoveries, our research group has developed a set of proprietary tools for drug screening and pollutant testing with zebrafish. They include technical platforms for angiogenesis, cytotoxicity, organ toxicity and cardiac toxicity.
