- *Abstract
-
The method, termed Event Correlation Microscopy (ECOM), uses a super-high resolution reference signal and various time correlation signal processing techniques to obtain much higher resolution data than the originally acquired data set.
Data have been obtained using ECOM to visualize singlevesicle neurotransmitter release events of cells. The technique could potentially be used for other imaging applications, where the high-time-resolution reference signal couldbe events like the opening of a shutter, flash illumination of the imaged sample, or the electricalstimulation of a cell.
Potential Applications
Imaging software for any application needing higher time resolution than what is normally possible with existing imaging techniques, e.g.:
- microscopy
- cameras
- electrophysiology
- audio video recordings
- data compression (if used in reverse mode)
Advantages
Vastly improves time resolution of a recorded data set
