- *Abstract
-
A Northwestern researcher has developed a multitude of monoclonal antibodies that recognize integral components involved in the interaction between epithelial cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM). His antibodies are specific to different subunits of laminin-5, a component of basement membranes, as well as HDs, a specialized cell-ECM contact that mediates the attachment of epithelial cell's basal surface to the ECM. These antibodies may be used as a research tool to study various features of epithelial cells that are pertinent to the process of wound healing, including motility, adhesion, proliferation, and cytoskeleton formation.
