Technology SummaryProfs. Albert Ratnerand Jay Bhama have developed a new method of flow through an ECMO that wouldoptimize the flow rate, substantially decreasing the time for each procedure. Theydiscovered the flux through the tube increased when using pulsatile flowinstead of a steady state flow. This method allows for faster procedure timessince the energy loss is minimized, while the fluid accelerates to an idealrate, and thus less tubing is needed.
