New Global Motion Algorithm
UC San Diego inventors have devised a global motion estimation technique for affine motion vectors with the following benefits: Requires less computational overhead. Relies on the easy-to-compute FFT. Highly parallelizable. Robust to illumination changes and occlusion. Not significantly effected by calculations involving large movements. Does not require a starting guess. Scalable between accuracy computational power. MPEG4 object layer coding.

Title: Global motion estimation image coding and processing
Usefulness: Global motion estimation image coding and processing
Summary: For estimating global motion between reference image and current image using six parameter affine motion model, two parameter translation model, four parameter rotation-scale translation (RST) model and eight parameter protective model, for video compression, segmentation, mosaicing, format conversion, image registration, camera stabilization and other image manipulation process.
Novelty: Global motion estimation method for e.g. video compression, involves determining coarse estimation of non-translational motion effect and translational motion effect, from translational invariant representation
