Modern agriculture methods use hybrid seeds and advanced equipment to increase production. These methods, however, are unintegrated and do not provide information on the yield of individual trees. This makes tree specific management impossible. Researchers at the University of California, Davis have developed an apparatus for precision harvesting and analysis techniques for orchard crops. The apparatus provides the combination of both yield determination and tree positional information, as well as the necessary data recording capabilities, to determine individual tree yield. This information can be used to relate environmental factors to individual trees, further improving production and yield.
