Stationary X-Ray Source
Faster imaging Better image quality Lower-cost Compact Scalable
Medical and industrial X-ray imaging technology Long lived, high output stationary X-ray source
Current medical imaging technology has largely focused on field emission cathodes as a source of x-rays for tomographic imaging. Beyond scanned beam systems, which work but are large, expensive, and not scalable, a viable commercial stationary source does not exist due to problems with stability and lifetime. A stationary x-ray source would provide, among other advantages, faster imaging, better image quality and lower-cost. Researchers at the University of California, Davis have developed an integrated method of providing a long lived, high output stationary X-ray source. Through proven technology based on the use of venerable dispenser thermionic cathodes and a unique rotating anode assembly, the design employs the use of gridded thermionic cathodes with a unique cylindrical rotating anode for robust, high X-ray flux operation.
