Initializing Model Procedure for the Removal Of Verifiable Errors (IMPROVE) for Weather Forecasting
IMPROVE is of interest to those forecasting precipitation associated with weather systems originating in areas characterized by few traditional observations. This includes forecasters along the west coasts of North America and Europe, and in the Southern Hemisphere. These new satellite-influenced model initializing fields would be of particular use in situations where an individual model initialized at different times and/or different models initialized at a single time disagree on the precipitation forecast; such disagreements indicate uncertainties in the initializing fields.
IMPROVE is a fully automated suite of computer programs to generate numerical weather prediction model initializing fields above 4 km from satellite total column ozone data.
