The developed 500 times concentration Photovoltaic (CPV) system utilizes the latest multi-junction PV cells, which can achieve up to 37.7% energy conversion efficiency, to replace the traditional silicon based cell. In order to reduce the set-up cost, solar radiation collector (primary optics) and sunlight concentrator (secondary optics) are adopted to take the place of the more expensive semiconductor material by the plastic fresnel lenses and spherical glass lenses. The built-in semi-automatic mechanical compensation system enables the CPV system to chase the Sun to collect and concentrate maximized solar energy onto the multi-junction PV cells.
