FHT Stove – Directly linking wood burning stoves to central heating circuits

標題

FHT Stove – Directly linking wood burning stoves to central heating circuits

總結

The FHT Stove technology can be applied to many different types of convector stove. A low power, low noise fan is used to reverse natural convection from the stove surfaces to draw heated air through a heat exchanger connected to the central heating circuit. When the fan is ‘on’ all of the convective heat from the stove is drawn through the heat exchanger to heat the water. When the fan is ‘off’, all of the convective heat passes to the room in which the stove is located by natural convection. In the event of a power failure, the fan reverts to ‘off’ – fail safe operation. No combustion gasses pass through the heat exchanger and the stove surface temperatures are similar whether the fan is ‘on’ or ‘off’, such that high combustion temperatures can be maintained for high efficiency, clean burning of wood – a very important consideration as stove emission standards are likely to be tightened when the Eco Design (EuP) Directive relating to stoves is agreed. A typical convector stove radiates around half of its heat from the front of the stove and half from the convective surfaces, such that the FHT Stove technology can ‘harvest’ around half of the stove heat. An alternative view is that the technology allows the user to reduce the room heat output by around half at the flick of a switch, so giving the user unparalleled comfort control. The actual amount of heat transferred can be varied by the stove design and according to the central heating system temperature. 技術應用

Burning wood (logs) in stoves and inset fires is one of the largest sources of renewable heat in Europe. Stove sales are buoyant as customers readily embrace this simple technology to save money, gain fuel security and reduce carbon emissions. Being able to effectively control the heat output from wood burning stoves and being able to distribute heat to other parts of the home considerably improves both comfort and the ability to displace fossil fuel heating in the rest of the home, saving money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The FHT Stove technology enables the direct connection of wood burning stoves to any type of central heating circuit in a manner that allows the user to turn ‘on’ and ‘off’ the heat transfer at the flick of a switch. This technology has the potential to transform the stove market by giving customers the ability to instantly control room heat output from a stove but avoids the considerable complexity, costs and lack of flexibility associated with traditional solutions for connecting stoves to central heating circuits. The technology can be integrated with existing convector stove designs to provide a truly unique stove product. The FHT Stove technology also maintains the high combustion temperatures required for clean burning of wood when transferring heat to the central heating circuit.

其他

The FHT Stove technology has been tested on various convector stove designs with around 1000 hours of successful testing completed, much of it logged in detail. Although simple in concept, around three years of engineering have been applied to optimise the design, prove fail-safe operation and to ensure efficient and very quiet operation. Information from the development and test programme provides a considerable body of ‘know how’ IP to complement the patenting.
