Image Processing Apparatus and Method
The patent discloses methods, apparatus, and computer program codes for processing images from micro-arrays, including DNA micro-arrays. Micro-array technology allows the simultaneous study of tens of thousands of DNA nucleotide sequences on a single microstrip glass slide or DNA chip. DNA micro-arrays provide information about gene expression, gene regulation, and interactions. This invention processes digital image input represented as a plurality of spots, each of which contains a different DNA sequence. The spots in turn generate data to define a grid to subdivide the image, such that at least some of the spots are substantially separated. A progressively reduced threshold method is used in the processing.
