EMI filters installed in electrical and electronic devices prevent electromagnetic noises generated by the devices from entering the mains power supply. The miniaturization of electronic devices and components means that smaller EMI filters of high efficiency are called for. The new filter comprises at least one planar element, which is made up of a pair of opposed coreless spiral planar windings and a planar capacitor. Another feature of the invention is the combination of a common mode filter and differential mode filter. The planar structures of the windings and capacitors facilitate the production of compact filters that can be integrated with other electronic components.
