Technology SummaryResearchers at the University have found phosphonate derivatives that incorporate the properties of prodrugs and fluorescence. These prodrugs allow for entry into a cell, and once cleaved by metabolic or chemical processes, release the active phosphonate. Alongside the active agent being released after a compound is cleaved, the fluorescent property of the compound is also expressed. This allows direct monitoring of the release of the active agent, information that otherwise was unreachable.
