Live Attenuated Vaccines for Francisella Noatunensis in Warm Water Fish
- 详细技术说明
- The live attenuated version of the pathogen, Francisella noatunensis subsp. orientalis, syn. F. asiatica, wascreated by mutations in the intracellular growth locus (igl). Tilapia gainedprotective immunity against wild-type Francisellaafter vaccination with the attenuated bacteria.
- *Abstract
-
Francisellosisis a chronic disease of warm water fish, primarily affecting tilapia and hybridstriped bass. The disease has caused significant economic losses and threatensto impede growth in the aquaculture industry in the U.S. and in Central andSouth America.
An attenuated bacterialstrain vaccine that contains mutations in the iglC gene of Franciscella noatunensissubsp. orientalis, syn. F. asiatica, was developed that demonstratedeffective immunity against the bacterium at four weeks post immersion. Theprotective immunity was due to humoral response with high antibody levels.
