High Energy Safe Battery with Internal Polymer Fuse
NAMI has developed an innovative polymer coating on the electrodes of lithium ion batteries to cease thermal runaway during internal or external short circuit of a battery. The nano polymer particles applied on electrode contain organic-inorganic hybrid flame retardant composite that can release non-flammable gas to dilute the flammable radicals generated at an elevated temperature. Most importantly, unlike conventional inorganic ceramic coating, the nano polymer coating of porous structure will not affect the battery energy density. The nano polymer particles are fabricated by a scalable “one-pot” and cost-effective method, which is more ready for mass production.
