Method For Efficient Radiolabeling Of Biomolecules

技術優勢
Biomolecule consumption is 50-100 times lower than current state of the art.Ensures high concentration of the biomolecule during labeling.Effective molar activity of labeled molecules is higher than current state of the art.
技術應用
Preparation of radiolabeled biomolecules for medical imaging such as PET or SPECT.Preparation of radiolabeled biomolecules for other applications.Preparation of radiolabeled biomolecules for high-throughput screening purposes.
詳細技術說明
UCLA researchers have developed a method that allows for synthesis of radiolabeled biomolecules in smaller volumes on the order of 50-100 times less than current standards with more than 90% labeling efficiency. Their method is simple and can be readily applied to prepare radiolabeled PET or SPECT tracers with minimized biomolecule cost and maximized molar activity. The method will also be beneficial for basic research when testing/screening several different biomolecules for PET or SPECT imaging.

State Of Development

Different biomolecules including peptides and a 55 kDa antibody fragment were efficiently radiolabeled with fluorine-18.

Background

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) are Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) are medical imaging techniques used for diagnosis of diseases, monitoring disease progression etc. It utilizes a radiolabeled molecule (“tracer”) that detects a cellular target which can then be imaged. Labeled biomolecules (proteins, peptides, etc.) represent a platform developing PET or SPECT tracers that bind to nearly any desired target. Currently, the preparation of radiolabeled biomolecules is costly due to the expensive nature of biomolecules and the high amounts that are generally needed due to the relatively large volumes of conventional radiolabeling apparatus. A method to perform the radiolabeling in smaller volumes will significantly reduce the cost and increase overall efficiency.
