This fluorinated polybenzoxazole, developed by the laboratory of Dr. Hatsuo Ishida, is derived from the benzoxazine monomer and possesses the combined excellent properties of facile synthesis, easy processability, low dielectric constant, high thermal stability, and long shelf life. The compounds have been extensively characterized (e.g., see Macromolecules 2017, 50, 6552−6560) and the combination of the very long shelf life with the high reactivity under polymerization conditions, in addition to the outstanding properties exhibited by each of the two possible families of polymers obtained from the same monomer, makes oTFA-ddm a resin with extremely promising properties for high performance thermosets. Potential applications are in microelectronic industries, aerospace, and other high-performance areas.
