Multicolor Nanoparticles for Fluorescence Multiplexing

詳細技術說明
A multilayer, fluorescently responsive material (FRM)-containingnanoparticle and compositions comprising such nanoparticles.  == SelectedRights Available ==
*Abstract

Silica nanoparticles less than 100 nm in size encapsulating up to three spectrally distinct dyes at up to three intensity levels resulting in twenty-six distinguishable colored nanoparticles.  These multicolored Cornell dots can also be surface functionalized with PEG (polyethylene glycol) or other moieties for biocompatibility and functionalization. Very high brightness levels make these dots potentially attractive for bioimaging and related applications.

As proof of concept, these multicolor nanoparticles were demonstrated to be taken up by cells, exhibiting fluorescence multiplexing capabilities, in contrast to other technologies which rely on dyes complexed to bulky micron sized beads.

Potential Applications

  • Medical diagnostics
  • High throughput screening
  • Intracellular bioimaging
  • End read-out applications

Advantages

  • Smaller size allowing for intracellular and in vivo applications compared to dye complexed, micron-sized particles, which are limited in these applications due to their large size
  • Particle architecture minimizes interference of multiple dye loadings and does not decrease the relative fluorescence emission of the dyes.
  • Capable of large scale analyses
