This means that tanks can take on a variety of shapes. Absorbents (such as activated carbon) are utilized to reduce the pressure required to store natural gas.The density of the absorbent determines its effectiveness. Researchers at the University of Missouri provide significantly increased the densities of briquettes of activated carbon by using a sequence of multiple compressions at ambient temperature followed by a higher temperature setting of the briquette. Briquette density increased by more than 50%.
