Differential-mode excitation of microstrip patch antennas and monolithic microwave integrated circuit antenna arrays are described.The system comprises an array of radiating elements. A control system generates differential-mode voltages or currents for exciting the radiating elements. A device feeds the differential-mode voltages or currents to the radiating elements. This generates radiation beam by mutual coupling between the radiating elements in the array.The method and system develops a framework for differential-mode excitation of an antenna array that exploits the mutual coupling between patches. It provides efficient radiation from the exposed top surfaces of antenna patches.
