Developed by Professor White and his team, this technology uses capsules filled with reactants to shut down solid state batteries. This safe method "heals" batteries that are failing catastrophically by stopping current and rendering them useless. Battery mechanical degradation breaks capsules and releases compounds which react with electrolyte, polymerizing it and stopping current flow. This brings the broken device to a fail-safe mode.
