Visual impairment is one of the most challenging disabilities a human being can ever face, as it makes it difficult to accomplish many everyday tasks. Some of the currently used techniques to address these challenges involve use of Braille readers, vibrating canes, and replacement of visual means by audible ones. However, such techniques lack the ability to completely address this problem and to fulfill the impaired individualΓÇÖs needs. This approach discloses the development and use of novel, robust tactile displays capable of converting small lateral vibrations into larger vertical vibrations.
