BackgroundThe use of RFID in credit cards is problematic with major concerns regarding security giving rise to electronic pick pockets as reported in the popular media.TechnologyInvestigators have developed a switch which is interposed between the chip and the antenna circuitry which allows the RFID to function only when the switch is closed. In the normal card environment, the switch is open. When the purchaser wishes to utilize the card for payment, the switch is simply closed by pressing on both sides of the card simultaneously.Stage of DevelopmentPrototype made and is being testedProvisional Patent Application filed
