*Abstract

Investigators have developed a platform technology that has the potential to be applied to numerous diseases involving all circulating cells, such as atherosclerosis, cancer, HIV, sepsis and many others. By altering the behavior of circulating cells in a well defined and precise way it will be possible to treat disease in a fundamentally different manner than ever before. The invention is an extracorporeal hemoperfusion device made up of hollow fibers that alter or activate circulating cells. The hollow fibers will be immobilized with desired ligands. Circulating cells in the blood will be perfused through the hollow fibers and targeted accordingly. Applications* Cells can be modified in treatment of sepsis, treatment of inflammatory disease, treatment of cancer, immune system regulation, or treatment of cardiovascular disease.Advantages* Method avoids side effects of systemic drug administrationStage of Development* In vitro data available
