GFP Reporter Constructs of Full Length Murine Akt1 and Akt2 Kinases

The Akt kinase family is comprised of three nearly homologous isoforms: Akt1 (PKB-alpha), Akt2 (PKB-beta) and Akt3 (PKB-gamma) with important functions in the regulation of cellular growth, glucose homeostasis and neuronal development. The functions of the isoforms overlap, but there are differences in tissue distribution and activity. Akt2, for instance, is essential for normal response to insulin in muscle and fat cells.
The field is still teasing apart the distinct functions of Akt isoforms. The Cornell lab led by Tim McGraw has made constructs for use in live cell imaging that will aid the process. Details of their making and use were published in the PNAS paper (and its supplementary information) cited below.
