The invention offers a delivery system of microparticles for the controlled release of an active ingredient that can be applied as a seed treatment or directly in soil, in which the active ingredient is released by a change in surrounding pH.
*Abstract

The system may comprise an inert microcrystalline cellulose core treated with an active ingredient (AI) layer, or the core may be the AI, and enteric coating polymers with pH dissolution characteristics. The AI can be pesticides, bactericides, fungicides, herbicides, or other agrochemicals.

 

The release of the AI is activated or triggered by application of a solution of standard reagents that change the pH of the media. Since the AI is released only at a defined pH, this delivery system functions efficiently for the AI release to be “where and when needed”. Accurate timing of agricultural AI release is an important key to control pests, insects, fungi, or other potential risks to crops.

 

This invention offers a more efficient alternative to current agricultural practices, since AIs are applied without waste and only released when and where necessary.

 

Potential Applications

    Seed, soil, or plant treatment for numerous agrochemical applications including but not limited to insecticides, plant growth regulators, and fertilizers.
