STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL CHANGES TO JOINT CAPSULES, TENDONS AND LIGAMENTS

技术优势
The advantages of this technology are a minimally invasive, less complex method that can reduce the need for complicated and invasive procedures. The combination of the low-cost disposables, simultaneous imaging, and conventional surgical techniques reduces the costs and allows the patient to have multiple incremental treatments over time.
技术应用
Suggested uses include simultaneous imaging and needle-based technologies to treat diseases and disorders of the joints, tendons and ligaments. The combination of techniques also applies to sports medicine and other orthopedic applications.
详细技术说明
Tendons, ligaments and capsular tissues are important for providing stability and motion to the joints within the extremities. Current surgical treatment options generally involve open surgical approaches or arthroscopic techniques to gain access to these tissues. Many of the currently used surgical procedures focus on reducing the size, thickness, shape or mechanical integrity of the tissue structure. Likewise, strengthening ligament or tendon in terms of enhancing its mechanical strength involves the use of clips or screws to alter the tension across these regions. There is a need in the marketplace for a technology that can lengthen or tighten joint tissue and simultaneously alter the mechanical behavior and properties of capsular tissues. Researchers at the University of California, Irvine have developed a low cost, simple technology to create electrochemical reactions that leads to changes in how the tissue behaves mechanically.
*Abstract
