*Abstract
Capacitors are components in electrical devices that temporarily store electrical energy. Capacitors possess insulating materials often called dielectric materials. These dielectric materials withstand the varying levels of energy density needed in electronic devices or other electrical applications. However, most dielectric materials cannot withstand high energy densities, which include any energy density larger than 20 J/cc. In order withstand high energy densities, the insulating, dielectric materials within capacitors must be improved. This new technology produces dielectric materials with superior properties which allow them to withstand high energies, called nanostructured dielectrics. Nanostructured dielectrics, such as titanium oxide, also have a higher breakdown strength, lower leakage current and lower loss factor. Such nanostructured dielectrics have significant applications in electronics for both military and citizens alike.
