Purification of bioactive saponin Esculentoside D. from Phytolacca latbenia

详细技术说明
None
*Abstract
It has been discovered that an important bioactive saponin, Esculentoside D. was isolated from Pakistan's indigenous plant (Phytolacca latbenia). This compound has shown strong allelopathic activities, and has been reported as a strong antitumor and anti-inflammatory agent (COX-2 inhibitor) with low toxicity. The concentrations of this compound are greater than 5% and the current retail price of this compound can be as high as $9000/g. Pakistani policy may encourage pharmaceutical exports and may have favorable incentives for the pharmaceutical and biotech drug industry, and the U.S. government has budgeted $1.5 billion in economic aid for Pakistan programs which educate children, strengthen democratic institutions and create jobs. A company based on this technology would be an industry which has the potential to create jobs in Pakistan. The current invention developed by researchers at the University of Missouri is a purification technique to isolate this bioactive compound from the root and aerial parts of the plant using modern chromatography and spectroscopy. This invention will provide the opportunity to turn abundant, low-value, renewable materials from the Phytolacca latbenia plant into a lucrative, high technology industry which has the potential to employ many people.POTENTIAL AREAS OF APPLICATIONSØ Pharmaceutical IndustryØ Pakistani Traditional Medicine IndustryMAIN ADVANTAGES OF INVENTIONØ Abundant, inexpensive and renewable raw materialsØ Cost effectiveØ Environmentally friendlyØ Increase Industry in PakistanSTATE OF DEVELOPMENTPurification procedures are being scaled upLICENSING POTENTIALUniversity seeks development partner or licensee with potential to commercializePATENT STATUS: Patent application plannedTECHNOLOGY INNOVATORSChung-Ho Lin, Nazif Ullah, Shibu Jose, & Bushra MirzaTECHNOLOGY MANAGER CONTACTHarriet F.
