Blood Pressure Education Pumps

总结
Researchers at Purdue University have developed an educational tool to teach patients about high blood pressure through a visual demonstration. This system represents the circulatory system and consists of a pump, which is difficult to operate by the patient, and tubing. It demonstrates the need for the heart to work harder to circulate blood in individuals with high blood pressure, and it offers a hands-on visual demonstration that is easy to operate, inexpensive, does not require the internet or electricity, and allows patients to visualize the effects of high blood pressure. This system can help patients understand the risks of high blood pressure and motivate adherence to preventative health and medication.

*Abstract

*Background
Preventative health and the treatment of chronic diseases have become a large focus in medical care as obesity rates continue to rise. High blood pressure, a chronic disease state often linked to obesity, is a condition that requires the heart to work harder for adequate circulation. Patients suffering from high blood pressure often do not feel its effect and, as a result, do not worry about the negative results it has on their body, which can result in serious and expensive outcomes. Education on the effects of high blood pressure is provided to patients, but it is primarily through vocal communication and lacks an interactive learning experience.
