Method to Bond Carbon Nanotube Arrays to Glass

总结
Researchers at Purdue University have developed a new process to bond CNT arrays to a glass layer using a combined electric field and relatively low temperatures. The novelty of the method lies in the use of relatively benign conditions to bond the CNTs and the ability to bond the CNTs without the use of chemicals. This process is envisaged to bring the CNTs in better contact with the opposing substrate, potentially leading to many desirable properties including mechanical stability and reduced thermal contact resistance.

*Abstract

*Background
Carbon Nanotube (CNT) arrays are currently bonded to glass layers using chemicals and high temperatures. When CNT arrays are grown on substrates and mated to another opposing substrate, results indicate free tips are not in ideal contact. This method can lead to reduced contact of the CNTs to opposing substrates and to thermal contact resistance.
