Liver Cancer Diagnostic Markers
- 总结
- Purdue University researchers have developed a diagnostic tool to detect liver cancer and the aggressiveness of the cancer. By looking for a protein profile, they can determine if the liver is likely to develop cancer because of the virus and the cancer's stage - precancerous, proliferative, or metastatic. Human samples and animal models were used to verify results.

- *Background
- In July 2013, the World Health Organization estimated that over 400 million people suffer from chronic hepatitis B infection. The chronic infection can lead to a hepatocellular carcinoma or liver cancer. There currently is no effective treatment for chronic hepatitis B and liver cancer. The identification of biomarkers for liver cancer caused by this virus could lead to better medicines and provide doctors with a better understanding of the disease progression, as well as which treatment option gives the best outcome for the patient.
