Modeling and Predicting Fatigue Life for Contact Loading
- 总结
- Purdue University researchers have developed a method to help reduce the very costly and destructive testing that is associated with fatigue life prediction. This invention incorporates a new method for selecting machining conditions for hard turning processes based on measured and/or predicted residual stress distributions and other variables. These properties are essential inputs for building models that can predict fatigue life, which can be based on the concept of crack propagation. Ultimately, this method can be used to predict the fatigue life and processing conditions for many finishing processes, such as shot peening, and can be applied to through-hardened and case-hardened metals.
